[ARCHIVED] Town recognized by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

PETA Compassionate Town Award Presentation 10-5-21

The Town of Providence Village received the "Compassionate Town Award" from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) at the October 5, 2021 Town Council meeting for installing mesh barriers around the pond inlets. The Town installed the barriers to prevent ducklings, and other small water animals, from accessing and slipping through the metal grates. During the Spring of 2020, the town and emergency personnel received a number of reports of ducklings slipping through the grates. In the off-season, town staff created and experimented with different devices that would not restrict the flow of water, but still prevent the ducklings from accessing the grates. Ultimately, the town found a product designed for sediment control produced by ERTEC that is effective, cost-effective, durable and easy to maintain. As an added bonus, the product is made from recycled materials, is reusable and is recyclable.
